Needy kids in need of a new home

JOHOR BARU: A non-profit organisation had hoped to own a new house for its 21 orphans.

Villa Paulos chairman F.Paul Netto said that the group managed to raise RM95,000 through a charity dinner. He added that the money collected during the dinner was from donations and also through sales of paintings during the dinner.

“Currently the children are staying at our home located along Jalan Mariamah here that houses 13 boys and eight girls ages between seven and 15 years.

Timely contribut ion: Chia handing over a mock cheque worth RM10,000 to Paul.

“We hope to build a new double-storey house beside the current one to separate the boys and the girls,” he said, adding that a sum of RM400,000 is needed to build the new house.

Netto hopes that the project would start early next year despite a shortage of RM305,000.

He said Villa Paulos was set up in 2008 to shelter neglected, abused, abandoned and orphaned children.

For best friends A.Adrian Ananthan, 11 and Xena Colin, 15, they said all of the children at the home are hoping to move into a new house soon.

Xena, 15, said that the current home was quite uncomfortable as there was not enough space for them.

Adrian hopes the new home will be bigger and have many toys for him and his friends to play with.

“This home is not only a place for us to be protected but also for us to enjoy ourselves being kids,” he said.

During the dinner Pengkalan Rinting assemblyman Chia Song Cheng donated RM10,000 to help build the double-storey house.

He urged the people to help the group in any way to ensure that the children would have a better future.

Those who want to contribute can call the home at 07-224 1036.
